The Real Story behind The Stiletto Awards

22 Mar

Each day I am honored to do the work that I was designed to do. I know I was purposed to counsel, coach, teach and write.  It is through these medians people lives are transformed.  I have never had a desire or needed to receive kudos or recognition for my calling. So over

the years, as I have received thank you notes and gifts of appreciation from those whom I have touched, it has been more than enough.  However, this year, something unexpected happened.   I received an e-mail stating that I was nominated for a Stiletto Award in several categories.  All I can say was that I was shocked.

Later, the true gravity of the honor began to sink in when I visited the Stiletto Awards website. As I read about the past recipients and my fellow nominees I was in awe. Beautiful talented women were selected from across the country that represented a wide range of entrepreneurs and social activists in many categories.

The honor of being a nominee gave me an opportunity to reflect on my work over past 18 years. I thought about all the people I have assisted on their path. It was an wonderful feeling to know I was doing what I was called to do. The Stiletto Awards event was the icing on the cake.

Ms. Karlena Wallace,   the founder and CEO of Stiletto Woman Magazine, and her team did a beautiful job of making each participant feel special. The details were in the silk table cloths, the shoe center pieces and the top level speakers that poured into our spirits all day long.

The highlights of the day for me came from the esteemed speakers.  The morning started with Media Mogul, Jen Groover.  She gave us insights into being mindful in our everyday lives and allowing that to lead us into success. The legendary actress, Tina Sloan, wowed us with her youth and desire to continue to grow and learn as she aged beautifully.  Dee Marshall, Coach and Television personality, shared her triumphs and trials as she walked out her desire to live by faith.  The inspirational continued as Katrina Harrell and Dr. Sabrina Jackson, spoke about their spirituality and understanding of their own ability to transform lives. The Fabulous Brandi Mitchell, Branding Strategist, gave us nuggets on how to look fly on the run. As the speakers spoke you saw the audience taking notes on their smart phones and Ipads. During intermission we all exchanged stories, chatted with the speakers and learned about the wonderful vendors who sponsored this event. There were beautiful connections being made all around the room.

As if this all were not enough to make a grown woman cry, the event was far from over.  We continued with Stacy Ferguson, Co-Founder of  Beblogalicious and event planner, told us her incredible story of how Beblogalicious came to exist and the extraordinary life she lead while creating it.  I learned through Stacy’s story that I am a blogger.  I definitely will be attending Beblogalicious this year.  I am in awe of these beautiful women and inspired to do more for my community by expanding my vision.

This event highlighted for me with clarity that when I shine then I allow others to shine.  I encourage each of you to attend an event of this magnitude to raise your own level of thinking. This year I made a conscious note to take time regularly to invest in myself personally and professionally.  I committed myself to supporting those in my community and around the country doing wonderful work.  My ultimate goal is to support women and to empower women to take control of their mental health through mindful meditation.  Even if I had not won an award that afternoon, I had already won because I was fulfilling my personal commitment of surrounding myself with high level thinkers.  My growth allows me to give more to my clients and my community.

SWIBA-Logo-800px Wallace and the Stiletto family, allow me to say thanks again for honoring me with 2013 Stiletto Award for Entrepreneurship in the Health and Healing category. I promise to continue to champion this cause and I look forward to next year’s Stiletto Awards where more community leaders will be recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Is your life balance out of Whack?

13 Mar

chaos momRecently I had an explosion of beautiful new things that were and are happening to me. I am excited about the new projects and developments in my life. However, I soon realized that my life was quickly getting out of control.  As a coach and counselor, over the years I have assisted folks with creating the life they have always wanted.  It is because of this background, I understand what an unbalanced life can do to you and for you.  But knowledge does not make you immune to living an unhealthy lifestyle.

So in the midst of my very productive season I have had to sit myself down and take some of my own medicine. To live a life of purpose requires that we be in divine connection with our creator.  That connection often takes a sacrifice of us getting in touch with our mind, body and spirit.  So how do you know when you are no longer in balance with God, with the Universe, with your own life?

Here are a few clues:

  • You are often rushed. You seem never to have enough time to completely be anywhere. Your schedule is often overbooked. Or you schedule your events or task too closely together that you don’t have any buffer time.
  • You often skip meals. You may also eat more fast food then home cooked meals.
  • You don’t work out because your schedule is too full.
  • You often cancel important appointments with your doctor, counselor or dentist because of other last minute commitments.
  • You don’t schedule important appointments because you believe you do not have enough time.
  • You finish the sentences of other people because you want them to get to the point.
  • You find that you get easily offended or you are snappy with people.
  • You experience road rage.
  • You wished you had more energy.
  • Your home and/or car are unorganized.
  • You want to take care of yourself by meditating, praying or getting quiet but just don’t have the time.
  • You have put on weight lately or you have a difficult time maintaining your ideal weight.
  • You drink alcohol alone.
  • You have chaotic relationships or you do not have the time to maintain friendships.
  • You purchase educational programs or exercise equipment but you never use them.
  • You work six to seven days a week.
  • You take your work home regularly.

You may have some of the signs or all of the signs. But whatever the degree of severity may be for you, you can still find balance for your life.  Getting your life in order is a process but with a sound plan you can do it!  Begin by asking the questions, “What do I really want?”, “What does balance look like for me?” or “What is the main cause of this unbalance in my life?”.

I am happy and joyful to report that last month I decided to get my peace back! I invite you to read my blog post “8 Powerful Strategies to Jump Start your Morning” for great tips on starting your day off right and specific ways to get your balance.

8 Powerful Strategies to Jump Start your Morning!

4 Mar

Morning Routine photoImagine how different your life would be if you had a morning routine that ensured a good day. Does your morning routine consist of staying in bed as late as possible while barely making it to work on time?If you’re like most people, your morning is probably rushed or busy before you even hit the floor. This can lead to unhealthy behavior such as yelling at the kids, kicking the family dog, eating an unhealthy snack or skipping breakfast all together.Having a wonderful morning and an impactful day just takes a few adjustments to your mindset and routine. Long lasting results requires a shift in your patterns.  So let’s jump in!

Here are a few simple ideas to implement so you can have productive and peaceful mornings:

1.Wake up earlier.  You’ll need some extra time in the morning to accommodate your mindful changes. Going to bed earlier makes this task easier. Set your alarm for an half an hour earlier each morning until you build up to an hour or ninety minute.

2.Visualize and Imagine good things. Right before you get out of bed. Begin to imagine how well your day will go. Visualize yourself being productive, happy and peaceful. Take some time to thank God for this new day that you will embark on.

3. Meditate . Take 10 minutes to practice meditation. Meditation brings awareness, focus and it allows us to get direct spiritual downloads. This will allow your day to have a peaceful glow to it.

4. Enjoy a little exercise. Take a walk, jump on the treadmill, or dance to some beautiful music. Focus on positive thoughts and get your body moving.

5.Shower on Affirmations. While taking your morning shower repeat affirmations to yourself. Use this time to shower yourself with positive thoughts and energy. Affirmations can truly transform your thinking and your life.

6.Eat a nutritious breakfast.  Having a green smoothie, vegetable omelet or oatmeal with fruit will get you off to a great start. It is amazing how we feel when we take care of ourselves. Soon you will notice that you make better eating choices throughout the day. During your meal, take time to be mindful of the flavors, colors, smells and texture of your food. This practice of being mindful will add to your eating experience.

 7. Drink a glass of water. Keep water by your bed and in your car. Drinking water the first thing in the morning compels your body to function at its optimal best.  Drinking water keeps your body and mind hydrated. Yes your brain needs water to function at its optimal best. So drink up.

8.Write out your Agenda for the day. Be sure take a few minutes to write and review your agenda for the day. Writing a list of priorities will assist you in making good decisions with your time throughout the day. Placing the most difficult task at the top of your list will help you to prioritize your daily tasks.  Having a daily agenda will empower you to be more productive each day.

Now you’re ready to get out there and accomplish something. How could you not be successful? The keys are to practice meditation, eat healthy and to have an agenda each day. A well thought out morning routine can have a significant impact on your life, peace, joy and success. Give it a try and see how it changes your day.

I am so excited about your future and I look forward to walking on this beautiful journey with you. Contact me today to learn how I can help you achieve your goals or speak at your organization .
