Vision Boards~ 5 keys to tranforming your life

14 Apr

I am sure you have heard of Vision Boards by now. And if you have not here is a quick review.Vision boards are designed by you. As the designer you become creative as you cut-out pictures of what you want to see in your life and add them to a poster board or frame.

The concept is that your mind will direct the things that you placed on your board to come your way. Many people first heard of vision boards when the book the secret came out years ago.

I have been using some form of Vision boards since 2001. They really are fantastic when used correctly in helping you expand your vision and open up the possibilities that life has to offer. Over the years I have also heard people complain that they have never received what they hoped for. I am going to help you resolve that issue right now.

Here are 5 keys to receive what you desire using your vision board.

Key #1: When creating your board allow yourself plenty of time and space to focus on your dreams and goals. Really think about what you want to see in your life. Ask yourself questions such as: How will accomplishing this change my life? Who’s life will I impact by accomplishing this goal? What is the purpose that God has for me?

Key #2: Become clear about who you are and what you want. Be authentic in what you want to see happen. Choose pictures that reflect your true self. If you choose cars and homes which you really do not desire then you will not manifest it. This is a common mistake that many people make when creating a vision board. They choose pictures that are not in align with their spirit. Choose pictures that you are drawn too. They be abstract, colors or symbols.  Ask yourself: What do I really want? Free yourself up to fantasize about living a no limit life.  What is calling me? Often times, our spirit will direct us to something we would not have choosen ourselves but we know deep down it has significance.

Key #3: Create your board based on your values in every area of your life. Think about your health, spirit,  family, business, career, recreation and your finances. There are many types of boards such as Financial boards, Business boards and all-in-one boards. No matter which board you choose always remember to use your values as starting point in the creation process. What would success look like to you? Would it include time for your family and friends? What are my values? How will I reflect that in my future?

Key #4: Use Meditation, Prayer and Affirmations to move your spirit in direct alignment in what you want to produce. Are you ready to receive all that you asked for? Would you believe it if it happened? Take time to prepare for the manifestation and truth will be revealed to you at an accelerated pace.

Key #5: Lastly and probably most importantly- Take Action. When opportunities in the form of people or situations come your way go for it. You can only achieve your goals and dreams if you put in the time and work. Your spiritual self wants to move and is aching for something to achieve. You have to be the catalyst to get the ball in action. Every time you reach higher God will expand that reach. Make this the year that you give him something to work with!

5 Ways to Increase Motivation

18 Dec

Motivation and drive propel us forward toward the realization of our goals, but some of us seem to have more of this driving force than others. If you feel like you have less of these traits than you would like, the good news is there are ways to increase your motivation and happily start trekking down the path of achievement.

1. Here are five sure fire suggestions to get you going: Burn your other options. Working like you have no other options will propel you into taking action.  For example if you want to find another job or start your own business.  Write a letter of resignation, postdate it a month, address it and give it to a friend. Require that your friend present you with the letter at the designated time. Now begin working on your business or job search as if that date is real. You will notice that you become urgent about how you manage your time and finances.

2. Focus on the positive people in your life. If you don’t feel like you have enough, find some new ones. Only share your goals with those that are most supportive of you. For example, if you want to lose weight, join a gym and hang out with the healthy people. They’re positive and supportive.Likely, there’s someone at the gym who has lost 100 lbs. That’s the person you want to associate with! This idea also means getting negativity out of your life. If your friends don’t support you, why are they there? Take an inventory of the people in your life. Add some who have what you want, and move on from the ones who aren’t supportive.

3. Feed your brain with positive information daily. Inspirational books and audio’s are wonderful tools for accelerating your growth and knowledge. The key is to use them on a daily basis. They’re like exercise for your motivation and drive. You can’t just work out just one time and expect to see significant results.Set a schedule and stick to it. Even if you just do 15 minutes a day, the payoff will be huge.

4. Act immediately. Once you’ve set a new goal, do something! Your first task can be as simple as making a phone call or laying out a plan. If you don’t take immediate action, you risk falling permanently into analysis mode where there’s a lot of thinking going on, but nothing is actually happening.Motivation often comes after action. Making a little bit of progress can be the inspiration behind additional progress. So do something as soon as you’ve decided what you want to accomplish.

5. Look the part. Take a look at yourself in the mirror. Do you look like the kind of person that would accomplish your goal on a regular basis? If your goal is to make $200,000 a year as a real estate investor, dress the part. Your identity should fit your goal. This may seem like a trivial matter, but it can make a huge difference.

Once you truly commit to your goal, your drive and motivation will see you to success. Take some action daily and remove your conscious safety nets that allow you to fail too easily; you’ll be amazed at the results.

As always, I wish you peace and joy on your wellness journey,

9 Keys to Refresh your Spirit

22 Oct
Over the years I have come to believe that we all need quiet time. We require quiet time to refresh and renew our spirits. Many times our daily lives are over packed with work, family obligation and other routine things. Then one day you wake up and realized you are stressed, angry and discontented with life.  The question I am often asked is  “ How do I start? “ , “ How do I build in time for myself when all my time seems to be allocated to others?”  These are all very good questions to ask ones self.  But where there is a will there is way.
I discovered a few years ago that real living takes place in the “White space “ of everyday life. I define white space as that down time when nothing particular is happening and you are just free to be or do what ever you like. A vacation could be considered white space. Depending on how it is scheduled. But most importantly you do not have to travel to get this “ White space”.  You can have this beautiful block of time in your schedule right now!

Here are a few tips on adding white space to your life:
  1.  Make your commute to work a peaceful oasis. Listen to calm relaxing music or soulful spiritual music that pumps you up for a great day. Limit phone calls during this time so that you can focus on the road and be fully present in the moment.
  2. Take a walk on your lunch break. Instead of going to the mall or out to lunch put on your walking shoes and do a few laps around the building. Notice the beauty of the trees and flowers. Start a practice of being  aware of the present moment.
  3. Take regular wellness days off from work. Yes…You have my permission to pull out your calendar and schedule a day off to just relax. On these days you might go to a museum or watch your favorite programs. Remember that it’s okay to take care of yourself when you are well. In turn you will rarely get sick and be more productive at work and home.
  4. Space your children’s activities out. They need a break and so do you. It’s wonderful to expose your kids to all sorts of activities and programs but too much is overwhelming for your schedule and theirs as well. Work to schedule extra curricular activities that fit in seamlessly with your schedule such as after school programs.
  5. Register and attend a weekly activity just for yourself. Yoga, running, belly dancing or mediation are just a few  activities that calm and soothe the mind and body. There are so many great things to choose from. Choose something you like and try it out for 5 weeks are so. Then pick something else. Keeping your life fun and balanced is one sure way to live a life worth living.
  6. Get out of the Corporate hustle. I know it’s your livelihood. Ask yourself am I really fulfilled by this position? Does this career allow me to lead a balanced life? Sometimes taking a step back is actually a step up in keeping your sanity in a crazy world. Make sure you make career decisions based on your values and not out of fear. If you are not quite sure how to implement this step talk with someone who can help you transition to a position that fits your life.
  7. Plan a hour each day where you can just relax. This may be in the morning before your family starts to stir or in the evening when everyone is gone to bed. Set aside a specific time where you can write in your journal, meditate and pray. It’s amazing what happens when we take the time to be still.
  8. Step away from Social media for a while so that you can balance your life. Many times we think that social media does not take up a lot of our time. But it does.  Step away for a day and see how productive you are. Now start using that time to practice relaxation techniques or mindful living.
  9. Have a stress reliever strategy. What do you do when you are stressed? Have a difficult decision to make? Taking some quiet time will help you to ease your worries and fears while focusing on a solution. Many times we make a rushed decision only later to regret it. Having free time to think a situation over will help you to stay calm and committed to your values.

Now that you have some ideas on how to incorporate  “ white space “ into your everyday life. Pull out your calendar and begin to plan your refreshing mini-escapes today. Soon you will be more relaxed and ready to fully embrace your life.

As always, I wish you peace and joy on your wellness journey,

6 Thought patterns that keep you Stressed Out

29 Aug
If you are like many people today you are bombarded with daily issues that come your way from work, children, health, finances and everything else in between. So with all this going on, is stress management really a possibility? Can a busy professional, parent or successful entrepreneur really be stress free? I believe that we can all find a sense of peace in our lives no matter what is going on.  Well, I am sure you are wondering how to achieve peace and harmony in your life.  Over the years, I have found that there are six thinking patterns that interfere with a person discovering their sense of peace.

  1. You may have an overarching life mantra or saying that keep you trapped in stress, such as saying like” There is never enough time to complete all my task” or “ Nothing will ever change for me”.
  2. You may have developed a time consciousness mindset. You are the type of person that only believes peace and happiness will come once you have achieved a goal. Only to discover that it does not so you keep making new goals with the hopes of receiving joy when they are met.
  3. You may be reliving the life of your parents. This cycle keeps you feeling stuck in an outdated pattern.
  4. You are a Type A personality and you only feel happiness if everything is done perfectly. You tend to have high expectations of yourself and others.
  5. You are an all or nothing type of person. If you start a plan but slip up you stop because you feel you messed up. This keeps you in a cycle of angst.
  6. You have had your share of disappointments and failures and you feel stuck in a pattern. You may be anger or bitter which causes you distress in your personal and work life.

No matter your personality type there are simple techniques that you can apply to help heal and calm your spirit. By learning stress management techniques you will enhance your family and work life. You soon will find that you approach issues and projects differently. Having a peaceful life doesn’t require you to enter a monastery or become a missionary. However, it does require you to open yourself up to change and to allow sufficient time to embody what you learn.

May God bless you and keep you on your journey.

10 Ways to Re-Connect with your loved ones

24 Jul

Our society is caught up in a state of perpetual busyness. We have trained ourselves to multi-task while reading e-mails, watching television, driving and eating while engaging in work, social media and phone calls. All this multi-tasking has caused us to become more disconnected from our family and friends. We have also convinced ourselves that in order to be successful we have to work long hours during the week and on the weekend. In essence we have lost sight of what is really important.

Spending quality time with our family and friends has been proven to be the highest measure of happiness in one’s life.  I am fortunate to have three beautiful daughters that remind me to stay in the moment everyday. Because I place such high regard for them I listen to what they have shared with me over the years.

The lessons began sixteen years ago and they continue today. This list was compiled with the input of Ariel and Yemi Alaba. These are the things that they told me that every kid desires!

You too can put them to practice to reconnect with your children or loved ones.

Tip#1 Leave your work at work.

Tip #2 Don’t accept business calls in the car, during dinner or family time.

Tip #3 Schedule talk time with your children everyday.

Tip#4 Have fun with them. Don’t just take them to the amusement park but get on the rides.

Tip#5 Preach less and listen more.

Tip#6 Live the lifestyle that you want them to embrace. Teenagers despise hypocrites.

Tip#7 Eat dinner together at least 3 times a week. You will be amazed at what your children will share over dinner.

Tip#8 Take care of yourself mentally, spiritually and physically. Kids want their parents to take care of themselves. An added bonus of living this tip is that your children will emulate this as well.

Tip #9 Praise your children or loved one MORE than you criticize them. They already know their faults. Sometimes they just need a cheerleader.

Tip #10 Don’t put them in the middle of your relationships.  Give your child the opportunity to determine the relationship that they will have with others.  Allow kids to be kids without the pressure of managing family drama.

Being in the moment is so important to keeping and building a healthy relationship. I hope that you were inspired by this post. Write me to let me know how you reconnected with your family and friends.
