Ain’t No Party Like A Oprah Winfrey Party….

We converged from all over the country to the land of Motown for the Live Your Life Tour Detroit hosted by Oprah Winfrey and friends.oprah-tour-life-you-want-949x534 DJ  Kiss got the audience primed and ready for the feast with electrifying sounds and beats. Iyanla Vanzant danced with us and invited us on a journey to free ourselves and welcoming us into the Awakening that was about to occur.For many of us we had already started this on this path. This event would serve as an oasis as we prepared for the rest of our journey.  The evening started with Oprah leading us through a series of monumental moments in her life that mirrored our own lives. After all we grew up with Lady O., we knew her story yet it captivated us to see it all laid out together. Through Oprah’s eyes we saw our own legacy in the making.

We welcomed day two with prayers and meditation with Mark Nepo and Winfrey. Weeping and crying as we released our fears accepting our now. Elizabeth took us on an Odyssey of adventure of where our life would lead if we followed our heart calling. Rob Bell fascinated us with embracing our quirky selves and extending faith as we follow Gods Call. We were introduced to the life story of the amazing heroine  Amy Purdy. Many of us tried Soul Cycle for the first time. Oh what an energy raising joy!

She lit up the stage with her phenomenal self and exuded her usual rawness and beauty that rocked the core of our personal truths.

I have been to many conferences and events over the years. This one will always stand out in my mind as one of the most spiritual and uplifting I have attended.  The central message of love was everywhere. Kindness dripped from the employees throughout the building. The attendees were patient with one another and giving. It felt almost like a church. People talked to each other and embraced one another. Once strangers we were all friends by day two.  There were spontaneous gestures of love all weekend such as the conga line at lunch, the crowd offering up a beautiful happy birthday Song to Iyanla and Oprah dancing with us to sounds of  DJ Kiss.

By lunch the Party was just getting started  and we rocked the day away. O town was open with sponsors and celebrities out to greet the crowd.  My daughter who was my guest for the event took selfies with Gayle King, Elizabeth Gilbert, Rob Bell and Amy Purdy.  It was a love fest.

Iyanla VI raise my hand and hat to Lady Oprah. Cheers. Thank you for bringing this event to us live and in person.  I have already begun my homework of working on my areas of life that do not resemble what I believe to be true. I have set my intention to live better, be better and not to settle for less.  Thank you and cheers.

As a member of the media I was so impressed with the care that was given to us. We received the most amazing seats and love by the media staff. Is Fear Holding You Back?

When I think of the number one emotion that causes the most pain to the human body fear is the first thing that pops up in my mind. Fear cripples people and causes them to go into paralysis leaving a trail of sadness, unlived lives and hopelessness. So what I know for sure is you can conquer fear by living a life full of purpose. Each day choose to stare fear down and take action.  Eleanor Roosevelt said it best with this statement “Do one thing every day that scares you.”  Conquering fear does not mean that you will not get scared sometimes but it does me you will do it anyway.

Get started living your best life by following these 5 actions steps today:

  1. Dispel old beliefs, examine and challenge them– Many old beliefs stem from our childhood. Maybe you were told you should be quiet and not speak to adults in public. This belief may cause you to have challenges when asked to present a topic at work. Examine the belief by figuring out when it begin and how it has played a role in your life. Then dispel the belief with a statement such as “I have a good voice and it should be heard by everyone.” “I no longer need to remain quiet”. Finally challenge the belief by moving to step 2-speak to a gathering of people on a topic.
  2.  Just do it- Just like the famous Nike slogan. When you are passionate about something and you know it is the right thing to do. Just do it. Start from where you are and soon you will build momentum.
  3.  Affirmations– are vital to reprogramming our mind to see fear differently. Repeating affirmations will help you overcome old beliefs that you may have regarding a matter.
  4. Repeat step three– Yes that’s right being consistent over time will yield massive results. Imagine being a restaurant reviewer. Each time you do a review you will become better and better over time. In the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell states that when we dedicate 10,000 hours to a craft we become an expert. Consistency is the key.
  5. Educate and Train yourself– When you take the time to study your craft, practice or understand how something works we naturally become less fearful because of the knowledge that we have. For example if speaking were an issue for you joining and participating in a group such; as toastmasters, would be a self-study that would help you hone your voice.

We live in a time where sickness and disease are common occurrences and are almost expectations of getting older. With the rise of holistic medicine it seems there is a battle between traditional solutions and new age remedies. All Is Well is the solution to the question – Do I follow the instructions of my doctor or my herbalist? The authors seek to integrate medical advances with holistic approaches to find long-term solutions so we can become healthy people.

All Is Well: Heal Your Body with Medicine, Affirmations, and Intuition by Louise Hay and Mona Lisa Schulz M.D. Ph.D. goes more in depth with healing the body through the mind body connection. Armed with medical knowledge we look at the origins of medical issues. Louise then guides us to wholeness and wellness with affirmations designed to heal us from the inside out and exercises that empower us to nature ourselves and knowledge.

All Is Well separates the body into groups of organ or emotional centers that are interconnected to our emotions. Based on these emotional centers the authors offer us probable causes to mental and physical issues that we are experiencing.

Whether you are a believer or just curious about the whole mind body experience you can’t help but evaluate and examine your own beliefs about what you are experiencing or have experienced in regards to disease in your life. As I read the book it struck me how the symptoms I once had in my lower back so closely fit the profile of the person Louise described in the chapter on back pain. I remember being stuck during that time and feeling pressure to stay in a situation that I no longer wanted to be in. That is when the back pain started. Once I began to change my situation and make choices that truly supported who I had become the back pain left.

The book remains true to Louise Hays’ core philosophy – we can heal ourselves. We are responsible for our lives. We are also guided to look more ineptly at life situations as we experience issues in our body. What circumstances, core beliefs or life patterns have allowed us to be in this current situation?

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is seeking a new way of being free from disease and sickness. You truly can be well.

Entrepreneurship is rewarding but it also can be tough. According to Richards, many businesses fail because of lack of planning and delegating.

I  recommend this book for anyone who is struggling in their current business or for new business owners who want to start with a good foundation.  This is a great resource for gaining ideas about how to be a well-balanced entrepreneur. Richards and Harrell are among the growing number of Indie authors who are adding value to the literary community.

The Reading Room- The Four Agreements

One Sunday afternoon while watching Super Soul Sunday I was introduced to Don Miquel Ruiz via an interview with Oprah Winfrey. The interview was full of surprises and new thoughts from this award winning author.  Naturally, I wanted to read the book.  If you are uncomfortable with spiritual types of books the author is quick to point out that this book is not about religion rather is about beinghuman and offering the world humility.

In the book, Don Miquel Ruiz takes us on a spiritual journey through the eyes of the Mexican ancient teachings of the Toltec. The book challenges us to look at our interpersonal skills in a unique way. According to Don Miquel Ruiz we are programmed from birth to follow systems and accordingly we take on beliefs that are orally taught to us. These beliefs cause us suffering and often times cause us to hurt others. This easy to read book provides a way to live a life free of struggle and suffering while learning to be more authentic in our being.

The First Agreement – be Impeccable with your word. This teaches us the value of our words and how they affect everything around us. We are urged to learn to honor our words.

The Second Agreement – don’t take anything personally.  We are challenged to release fear and anxiety by not taking anything personal good or bad. Learning this principle allows us to be free from the thoughts of others.

The Third Agreement – don’t make any assumptions.  We are urged to seek the truth rather than make assumptions about a person or a situation.

The Fourth Agreement – always do your best.  Simple enough but many times we struggle because we work to live up to someone else’s standard. Don prompts us to do our best and let go. While we do our best we are truly living a life of abundance.

The Four Agreements offer us solutions to breaking free from the beliefs that do not serve our purpose.  The message is beautifully written and the sharing of the Toltec culture is an added bonus. I recommend this book to anyone seeking a practical guide on living their best life.
